Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development participate in the UN Security Council meeting devoted to Iraq.
The international conference in Paris, which took place on September 15 on the initiative of France and Iraq, made it possible to affirm the international community’s commitment to the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Iraq and provided a political framework to support Iraq. The participants notably pledged to support the new Iraqi government in its fight against Daesh, including through military assistance that will address the needs expressed by the Iraqi authorities. In keeping with this commitment, France has decided to provide air support to the operations to combat Daesh in Iraq.
Following on from this conference, the Security Council meeting aims to strengthen international mobilization in order to provide Iraq with the international assistance it needs on the political, humanitarian and security fronts.
